Lishui is a prefecture-level city in the southwest of Zhejiang province, China, with a total population of about 2.5 million. Its name translates to Beautiful Waters, and it borders Quzhou, Jinhua and Taizhou to the north, Wenzhou to the southeast and Fujian province to the southwest. Human settlement in the area dates back roughly 4,000 years to the Liangzhu culture, and a prefecture named Chuzhou was established there in 589 during the Sui Dynasty before the area was renamed Lishui County in 779.
