Lorengau is the capital of Manus Province, Papua New Guinea, on the edge of Seeadler Harbour on Manus Island in the Admiralty Islands. Japanese forces occupied the island in April 1942 and built an airstrip there before Allied forces retook it and the Americans developed a major naval base at nearby Lombrum and an airfield at Momote to support the Philippines campaign. Today Lorengau remains the provincial administrative hub, governed under the Lorengau Urban Local Level Government, with a 2013 census population of about 6,313.
