Lower Hutt, known in Maori as Te Awa Kairangi ki Tai, is a city in New Zealand's Wellington Region administered by Hutt City Council, forming part of the Wellington metropolitan area. It occupies the lower half of the Hutt Valley and the eastern shores of Wellington Harbour, separated from Wellington by the harbour and from Upper Hutt by the Taita Gorge. It is New Zealand's sixth most populous city, with a territorial population of 114,200 in June 2025 over an area of 376.4 square kilometers.
