Lucena is a highly urbanized city in the Calabarzon region of the Philippines, geographically part of and the capital of Quezon province though administratively independent from it. Named in 1879, incorporated as a municipality in 1882 and chartered as a city in 1961, it had a 2024 census population of 280,331 across 80.21 square kilometers. Situated on Tayabas Bay about 130 kilometers south of Manila, Lucena serves as a major commercial, healthcare, education and government center for Quezon province and the surrounding area.
