Lycosura was a city in the ancient Parrhasia region of southern Arcadia that the traveler Pausanias described as the oldest city in the world, though no evidence for it survives before the fourth century BC. Its chief remains are the sanctuary of the goddess Despoina, which held a colossal sculptural group attributed to Damophon of Messene, along with a stoa, altars, a fountain and baths.
