Maasin is a component city and the capital of Southern Leyte province, in the Eastern Visayas region of the Philippines. Established as a parish in the 1700s and chartered as a city on August 10, 2000, it had a 2024 census population of 85,486 across roughly 211.71 square kilometers. Known as the City of Faith and seat of the Diocese of Maasin since 1968, the city is the largest commercial and religious center of Southern Leyte and the birthplace of Rodrigo Duterte, the sixteenth president of the Philippines.
