Mahina is a commune in the north of Tahiti in French Polynesia, with a population of 14,623 at the 2022 census across an area of about 52 square kilometers, the fifth most populous commune in French Polynesia. Captain James Cook set up an observatory on its black sand beach at Pointe Venus in 1768 to observe the Transit of Venus, and Mount Orohena, French Polynesia's tallest peak at about 7,300 feet, lies nearby.
