The capital city of the Malaysian state of Malacca and the oldest Malaysian city on the Strait of Malacca, which became a successful trading port, or entrepot, in the era of the Malacca Sultanate. The city was founded in 1396 by Parameswara, a Sumatran prince who fled to the Malay Peninsula after the Srivijaya Empire fell to the Majapahit.
