Mar del Plata is a city on the Atlantic coast of Buenos Aires Province, Argentina, and the seat of the General Pueyrredon district. It is the second largest city in Buenos Aires Province and, with a population of 682,605 at the 2022 census, the fifth largest city in Argentina. Its name is short for Mar del Rio de la Plata, meaning sea of the Rio de la Plata basin, and the city is one of Argentina's major fishing ports and its biggest seaside beach resort.
