Masaya is the capital of Masaya Department in Nicaragua, about 14 kilometres west of Granada and 31 kilometres southeast of the capital Managua, and is Nicaragua's fourth most populous city with a population of 191,574 at a 2022 estimate. Known as the City of Flowers and the Cradle of Nicaraguan Folklore for its traditional crafts, it lies just east of the active Masaya Volcano, from which it takes its name.
