Matanzas is the capital of Matanzas Province in Cuba, on the northern shore of the island on the Bay of Matanzas, about 102 kilometers east of Havana and 32 kilometers west of the resort town of Varadero. The city is known for its poets, culture and Afro-Cuban folklore traditions.
