Maturin is a city in Venezuela, capital of the state of Monagas, and a center for the exploration and development of the country's petroleum industry, with a metropolitan area population of about 401,000. Growing rapidly through the twentieth century on the strength of nearby oil fields, Maturin functions today as an important commercial and logistical hub for eastern Venezuela's energy sector.
