Menden is a city in the Maerkischer Kreis district of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, at the northern edge of the Sauerland region near the Ruhr river. It received city rights in 1276 and grew into an early industrial center, beginning with needle production in 1695 and later developing limestone and cement industries; the city expanded through municipal mergers in 1975. As of December 31, 2025, Menden had a population of 52,121.
