A large port city on the Mediterranean coast of southern Turkey and the provincial capital of Mersin Province, made up of four district municipalities: Akdeniz, Mezitli, Toroslar and Yenisehir. Its urban population was 1,084,789, with the broader metropolitan area, which also takes in Tarsus and Erdemli, reaching approximately 1,954,279 as of 2024 estimates.
