Metapontum was an ancient city of Magna Graecia on the Gulf of Tarentum in southern Italy, between the Bradanus and Casuentus rivers, roughly 20 kilometers from Heraclea and 40 kilometers from Tarentum. Its site lies near modern Bernalda in the Province of Matera, Basilicata, and its surviving ruins include a Greek theater.
