Mezokovesd is a town in Borsod-Abauj-Zemplen county in northern Hungary, about 50 kilometers from Miskolc and 15 kilometers from Eger. Thermal springs discovered in the town in 1938 have become a major tourist draw, and the town is closely associated with the Matyo people, whose folk embroidery is considered among the finest examples of Hungarian folk art. The towns population peaked at 21,000 in 1941 and stood at 16,905 in 2008.
