Mississauga is a city on the northwestern shore of Lake Ontario in the Regional Municipality of Peel in Ontario, Canada, bordering Toronto to the east, with a population of 717,961 at the 2021 census. It is the seventh most populous municipality in Canada and the second largest city in the Greater Toronto Area, home to Toronto Pearson International Airport and the headquarters of numerous Canadian and multinational corporations; rather than growing organically, it formed from the amalgamation of three former Ontario villages and two townships before its formal incorporation as a city in 1974.
