Mittweida is a town in the Mittelsachsen district of Saxony, Germany, on the Zschopau River, 18 kilometers north of Chemnitz and 54 kilometers west of Dresden, with a population of 13,839 as of December 31, 2024 across 41.26 square kilometers. First mentioned in 1209, it became one of Saxony's major textile-producing centers in the 20th century, and today hosts a University of Applied Sciences with about 5,000 students, founded in the late 19th century and known beyond Saxony.
