Modena is a municipality on the south side of the Po Valley in the Province of Modena, Emilia-Romagna, northern Italy, with about 184,361 residents as of 2026, making it Italy's 20th-largest city. It is headquarters or production home to luxury sports car makers including Ferrari, Maserati and Pagani, is known for balsamic vinegar production, and its Cathedral, tower and central square were named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997; the Este family made it a ducal seat after Ferrara fell to papal control in 1598.
