Mosonmagyaróvár

Mosonmagyarovar is a town in Gyor-Moson-Sopron County in northwestern Hungary, near the Austrian and Slovak borders, with a population of about 33,954 as of January 2019. It was formed in 1939 by the merger of two older settlements, Magyarovar and Moson, the latter of which had been the original seat of Moson County before losing that status to Magyarovar in the Middle Ages; a Roman fortress called Ad Flexum stood on the site as early as the 1st century, and the settlements were repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt through Ottoman invasions and later wars. Today the town is known for dental tourism, drawing an estimated 160,000 Austrian patients a year to roughly 350 practicing dentists.
