Mount Isa is a city in the Gulf Country region of north western Queensland, Australia, which grew up around mineral deposits including one of the most productive combined lead, silver, copper and zinc mines in history, Mount Isa Mines. Established in 1923, it had a population of 18,317 at the 2021 census and serves as the administrative and commercial centre for Queensland's north west. The surrounding arid region was once part of an extensive Aboriginal trade network across the Lake Eyre Basin valued for stone tool production, and the artificial Lake Moondarra now supplies the city's water and recreation.
