Muiden is a city in North Holland, Netherlands, at the mouth of the Vecht river, part of the municipality of Gooise Meren since a 2016 merger, with a 2021 population of 7,200 across 13.07 square kilometers. First recorded in 953 when Holy Roman Emperor Otto I granted the settlement to the Cathedral of Saint Martin in Utrecht, it received city rights in 1122 and again in 1296, and Count Floris V built Muiderslot, a well preserved medieval castle, at the river mouth soon after.
