Münster is an independent city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, in the northern part of the state and the historic capital of the Westphalia region. During the Protestant Reformation it was the site of the Anabaptist rebellion, and in 1648 Münster and Osnabrück hosted the signing of the Treaties of Westphalia that ended the Thirty Years' War. It is known today as the bicycle capital of Germany.
