Mysore, officially Mysuru, is a city in the southern Indian state of Karnataka and the headquarters of Mysore district. Its metropolitan population was about 1.06 million at the 2011 census. Capital of the Kingdom of Mysore for nearly six centuries under the Wadiyar dynasty until 1947, the city is known as the "City of Palaces" for landmarks such as the Mysore Palace, and it is celebrated as Karnataka's cultural capital for its annual Dasara festival.
