Nabatieh, also spelled Nabatiyeh, is the largest city in the Nabatieh Governorate of southern Lebanon and serves as the administrative center of both the governorate and the district of Nabatieh, as well as the principal city of the Jabal Amil region. Its population is uncertain, since Lebanon has not held a national census since 1932, with estimates ranging from 25,000 to 100,000; the city is predominantly Shia Muslim and lies roughly 73 kilometers south of Beirut.
