Nakskov

Nakskov is a market town on the island of Lolland in southern Denmark, the largest town on the island, sitting on Lollands western coast next to the Nakskov Fjord, a wildlife reserve known for its birds. The town received trade privileges in 1266 under King Erik V Glipping and grew as a center of manufacturing and commerce, though its heavy industry declined after Denmark joined the EEC in 1973 and has since been replaced by technology and environmental enterprises. Nakskov is regarded as one of the most environmentally conscious and cleanest towns in Denmark, and local government has carried out recent restoration efforts. Its population was 11,969 as of January 1, 2026.
