Nampo

Nampo is a major city in North Korea, the country's fourth largest by population, designated a Special City in 2010 and situated about 50 kilometers southwest of Pyongyang near the mouth of the Taedong River estuary on the Yellow Sea. Known as Chinnampo during Japanese occupation and reverting to Nampo after liberation, the city was officially founded in 1950 and functioned as a provincial-level Directly Governed City from 1980 to 2004 before its current designation. As of 2014 its population was 983,660 across 1,281 square kilometers, and it serves as Pyongyang's port on the Yellow Sea with substantial industrial capacity, having undergone a major seaside-themed redevelopment completed in September 2020.
