Nanchang is the capital of Jiangxi province, China, located in the north-central part of the province in the hinterland of the Poyang Lake plain, bounded by the Jiuling Mountains to the west and Poyang Lake to the east. The city holds a significant place in modern Chinese history as the site of the 1927 Nanchang Uprising, regarded as the founding action of the People's Liberation Army, an event commemorated annually as Army Day.
