New Taipei City is a special municipality in northern Taiwan and the most populous city on the island, with an estimated population of 4,004,367 as of January 2023. It is the second-largest special municipality in Taiwan by area, after Kaohsiung, and it completely encloses the capital city of Taipei; it borders Keelung to the northeast, Yilan County to the southeast, and Taoyuan to the southwest. Its municipal seat and largest commercial area is Banqiao District.
