Nitra is a city in southwestern Slovakia at the foot of Zobor Mountain in the Nitra River Valley, about 90 kilometers northeast of the capital Bratislava, with a population of about 78,353, the fifth largest city in Slovakia. It is one of the oldest cities in Slovakia and was once the center of the Principality of Nitra, a duchy of major historic significance; today it is the administrative seat of Nitra Region and Nitra District and, thanks to its long farming tradition, is regarded as the agricultural capital of Slovakia.
