Noida is a planned city in the Gautam Buddha Nagar district of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, forming part of the National Capital Region around Delhi. Its name is short for the New Okhla Industrial Development Authority, the body that founded the city in 1976 in the floodplain between the Yamuna and Hindon rivers. It is regarded as one of the most systematically planned cities in India, and its district, which also includes Greater Noida, is a major contributor to the economy of Uttar Pradesh.
