Nordlingen is a town in the Donau-Ries district, in Swabia, Bavaria, Germany, with a population of approximately 20,674, located about 115 kilometres east of Stuttgart and 145 kilometres northwest of Munich. It sits within the Nordlinger Ries, an impact crater about fifteen million years old and 25 kilometres in diameter, formed by a meteorite strike estimated at 70,000 kilometres per hour that left the area with an estimated 72,000 tons of micro-diamonds.
