Novi Marof is a town in Varazdin County, in the Hrvatsko Zagorje region of north western Croatia. At the 2021 census the town had a population of 11,795, while the wider municipality of 23 settlements had 13,246 residents. It lies at the junction of state roads D3 and D24 and connects to the A4 motorway and the R201 railway. In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries Novi Marof was a district capital within Varazdin County of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia. The town holds memorials to those who died in the Second World War and to the 1992 downing of a European Community Monitor Mission helicopter during the Croatian War of Independence.
