Nyiregyhaza

Nyiregyhaza is a city with county rights in northeastern Hungary, capital of Szabolcs-Szatmar-Bereg County in the Northern Great Plain region. First documented around 1209 under the simple name Nyir, it took its current name after a church was established there by 1326, received market town status in 1786, and became the county seat in 1876, with significant urban growth through the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Its population was approximately 118,001 in 2017, the seventh largest city in Hungary, and it is home to major employers including Lego Manufacturing and Michelin. Nyiregyhaza Zoo, with over 500 species, is recognized throughout Europe as a leading attraction.
