Nyirtelek is a town in Szabolcs-Szatmar-Bereg County, in the Northern Great Plain region of eastern Hungary. It was separated from Nyiregyhaza and established as an independent settlement in January 1952 under the name Sorekut, before being renamed Nyirtelek later the same year. Its recorded population was 7,114 in 2005.
