Obrovac is a town in northern Dalmatia, in Zadar County, Croatia, in the canyon of the Zrmanja River about 11 kilometers from where it meets the Novigrad Sea. The 2021 census recorded 4,323 people in the wider municipality and 793 in the urban area proper, down from a peak of 13,498 in 1971 after significant emigration; the 2011 census showed the population as 65.7 percent Croat and 31.4 percent Serb. First documented in 1337, Obrovac has the ruins of a fortified fortress above the town and lies near the Bijela River canyon with its waterfalls and pools.
