Olynthus was an ancient city in present-day Chalcidice, Greece, built mainly across two flat-topped hills thirty to forty meters high in a fertile plain at the head of the Gulf of Torone. It rose to prominence as head of the Chalcidian League and flourished as a major Greek settlement until its destruction by Philip II of Macedon in 348 BCE.
