Onga is a town in Borsod-Abauj-Zemplen County in northeastern Hungary, in the Miskolc District about ten kilometers from Miskolc, with Bronze Age artifacts showing habitation since prehistoric times and a first written record from 1222. It was burned during the Ottoman occupation in 1588 and suffered further during the Rakoczi uprising, but it rebuilt and grew through the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, and it was granted town status on July 15, 2013 after industrial development and the expansion of the railway spurred its growth.
