Oral, also called Uralsk, is a city in northwestern Kazakhstan at the confluence of the Ural and Chagan rivers, close to the Russian border. It is the capital of West Kazakhstan Region. Because it sits on the western bank of the Ural River, the city is considered to lie geographically in Europe, making it one of the few Kazakh cities located on the European side of the conventional Europe-Asia boundary.
