Oroquieta is a component city and the capital of Misamis Occidental province, in the Northern Mindanao region of the Philippines. Founded in 1880 under the name Layawan and renamed Oroquieta, after a Basque town in Navarra, Spain, in 1884, it was granted cityhood on January 1, 1970 and had a 2024 census population of 71,373 across 237.88 square kilometers. The Franciscan friar Tomas Casado helped establish the settlement abaca industry, and the city is known today as the City of Good Life.
