Paesus, also called Paisos, was an ancient town and city-state on the coast of the Troad in Asia Minor, between Lampsacus and Parium near the entrance to the Propontis, its site placed about six miles northeast of Cardak in modern Turkey. Its name reflects both Hittite and Greek naming traditions, and it received colonists from Miletus; a character named Amphius is identified as being from Paesus in Homer's Iliad. The town was occupied by the Persians during the Ionian Revolt, later paid tribute to Athens as a member of the Delian League between 453 and 430 BC, and by the time of Strabo had been abandoned, its people having moved to Lampsacus.
