Pagadian is a component city and the capital of Zamboanga del Sur province, in the Zamboanga Peninsula region of the Philippines. Established as a municipality in 1937 and chartered as a city in 1969 under Republic Act No. 5478, it was designated the regional center of Region IX in 1990 and had a 2024 census population of 206,483 across 378.80 square kilometers, the second largest city in the region after the independent city of Zamboanga. Nicknamed the Little Hongkong of the South, the city is known for a public tricycle design built to climb inclines of roughly 25 to 40 degrees, said to be unique in the Philippines.
