Palayan is a component city and the capital of Nueva Ecija province, in the Central Luzon region of the Philippines. Established on June 19, 1965 under Republic Act No. 4475 as one of seven planned cities in the Philippines, replacing Cabanatuan as provincial capital, it had a 2024 census population of 47,883 across 101.40 square kilometers, the least populated city in the Philippines by the same census. Its name, meaning rice paddy, reflects Nueva Ecija status as the Rice Granary of the Philippines.
