Palmerston North is a city on New Zealand's North Island and the seat of the Manawatu-Whanganui region, located in the eastern Manawatu Plains near the north bank of the Manawatu River, about 140 kilometres north of the capital, Wellington. Its urban population was 81,200, with an estimated city population of 90,500, making it the country's eighth largest urban area.
