Panormus (Skopelos)

Southern Europe

Panormus, or Panormos, was an ancient harbor on the coast of the island of Skopelos in the Northern Sporades, at the site of the modern village of Panormos. Diodorus and Polyaenus record that around 361 or 360 BCE, Alexander of Pherae occupied the harbor while besieging the nearby town of Peparethus; the Athenian admiral Leosthenes brought ships to Peparethus's defense, but Alexander held Panormus, seized several Athenian triremes by a ruse, and went on to plunder Piraeus.
