Paraparaumu is a town on the Kapiti Coast in New Zealand Wellington Region, about 51 kilometers north of Wellington, with an estimated population of 29,900 as of June 2025. It serves partly as a commuter town for Wellington workers and is the administrative center of the Kapiti Coast District. Its name comes from Maori, meaning scraps from an earth oven, recalling an 1819 to 1820 expedition by Ngapuhi and Ngati Toa who found limited resources in the area. The town Paraparaumu Beach golf course has hosted the New Zealand Open a record 12 times.
