Parma is a city in the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy, with a 2025 population of 202,111 making it the region's second-largest city after Bologna, divided by the Parma stream into two districts. Colonized by Rome in 183 BC and later a stop on the medieval Via Francigena pilgrimage route, it is known for its architecture, prosciutto, cheese and the University of Parma, one of the world's oldest universities, and was named a UNESCO City of Gastronomy in 2004.
