Pescara is the capital of the Province of Pescara in Italy's Abruzzo region, on the Adriatic coast at the mouth of the Aterno-Pescara river, with 118,657 residents as of January 2023, the most populous city in Abruzzo. The modern municipality was formed in 1927 by merging the old Pescara fortress south of the river with Castellamare Adriatico to the north, and today it is a commercial and tourist hub with an international airport and a major Adriatic tourist port.
