Phasis was an ancient and early medieval city on the eastern coast of the Black Sea, founded in the seventh or sixth century BC as a colony of Milesian Greeks at the mouth of the river of the same name in Colchis. Its site is thought to correspond to the present day port city of Poti, Georgia. Its ancient bishopric later became a Latin Catholic titular see of metropolitan rank.
