Pitane, near modern Çandarlı in Turkey, was an ancient Greek town of the region of Aeolis in Asia Minor, situated near the mouth of the river Evenus on the bay of Elaea. It was one of the eleven ancient Aeolian settlements and had considerable commercial advantage from having two harbours. Pitane was the birthplace of the philosopher Arcesilaus, and the town suffered severely from an earthquake during the reign of the Roman emperor Titus.
